How to Check and Improve Website Speed

They say 53% of mobile users abandon websites that take over 3 seconds to load (link)..

When I read the above statistic, I freaked out and investigated the loading time of millennialmoderator.com. It had never previously occurred to me the importance of website load time, and now here was my site clocking in at 4.5 seconds.

If you haven’t had a chance to check your website loading speed, I highly suggest doing so.

The first tool I suggest is GTmetrix, which will give you a cross comparison of several different performance rating services, as well as site loading time. Some of the common things you’ll find needing to be improved are:

  • Optimize / scale images
  • Minify Javascript
  • Leverage browser caching
